In modern industrial applications, the performance of bearings is affected by a variety of environmental factors, including temperature, corrosive environment, load, impact, and lubrication conditions. First, temperature is one of the primary factors affecting bearing performance. In high temperature environments, the physical properties of bearing materials may decrease significantly, and the viscosity of lubricating oil or grease will also decrease, which directly affects the load-bearing capacity of the oil film. Insufficient oil film will lead to increased friction between bearing surfaces, which will increase wear and may even cause serious failures. To cope with high temperature environments, it is recommended to use materials with excellent thermal stability, such as nitrogen-enhanced martensitic stainless steel, and grease or lubricating oil suitable for high temperature operation. Such materials and lubricants can maintain their performance in high temperature environments, thereby effectively extending the service life of bearings. In addition, high temperatures will accelerate the oxidation and deterioration of grease, further shortening the effective working cycle of bearings.
Secondly, the impact of corrosive environments on bearings should not be underestimated. Moisture and certain chemicals will corrode bearing materials, reduce their strength and toughness, and thus shorten their service life. In such environments, it is extremely important to give priority to the use of corrosion-resistant materials, such as ceramic rolling elements and nitrogen-enhanced martensitic stainless steel. These materials can not only effectively resist corrosion, but also maintain the geometric accuracy and performance stability of the bearings, ensuring the reliable operation of the equipment.
In addition, load and impact are also important factors affecting bearing performance. The radial and axial load capacities designed for bearings of different specifications vary. When the load borne by the bearing exceeds its design limit, the contact stress between the rolling element and the raceway will increase significantly, resulting in accelerated wear and fatigue failure. Equipment often encounters sudden impact loads during startup, shutdown or operation. These instantaneous impacts may cause the bearing to bear huge forces beyond its load-bearing capacity, which can easily cause damage to internal parts. Therefore, when selecting groove ball bearing, their load capacity and impact resistance must be fully considered to ensure their reliability in practical applications.
Humidity and lubrication conditions are also critical to the performance of bearings. In a hot and humid environment, the lubricating oil film is easily destroyed, resulting in poor lubrication, which in turn causes direct contact between metal surfaces, resulting in dry friction, accelerated wear and failure. To improve lubrication conditions, it is recommended to use high-temperature grease or oil-gas lubrication system. At the same time, the quality and replacement cycle of the lubricating oil should also be strictly controlled to ensure that the bearing is always in a good lubrication state.
Finally, the impact of the vacuum environment on bearing performance cannot be ignored. Under vacuum conditions, the material may outgas, which will affect the lubrication effect and overall performance. Therefore, bearings designed for vacuum environments must use solid lubricants such as gold, silver, molybdenum disulfide and polytetrafluoroethylene. At the same time, the choice of retainer material should also meet the requirements of the vacuum environment, such as using austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 to ensure the stability and reliability of the bearing in extreme environments.
